Such a message constitutes plaintive admission of impossible attraction – a passing fancy, perhaps, or a longer infatuation – if not necessarily love. It is as much a compliment to the Receiver as it is a polite refusal, and an excellent way of letting another party down gently. Should the Bearer’s handicap be a third party, however, it is advisable to avoid their cognizance of such an exchange, lest wrath or worse should result.

Receivers minded to be kind may respond with a passionate I need you, a regretful I understand or an affable Fair enough; those wishing to take issue with the Bearer’s decision may challenge with a I'll do anything or I can wait; while a wistful Receiver may wish simply to say I miss you. A playful I dare you can also be sent, but it is advisable to consider Consequences before doing so.
